Europe - Third Again?
So, once again, Europe gets the short straw. While Microsoft at least tried to treat all three of the major gaming territories equally, Sony have decided to give Microsoft another four months free ride in what I think is the most crucial territory now.
Microsft's failure in Japan and massive success in the States means that Sony have an easy ride on their home ground (hence the 100,000 consoles at launch) and a very tough battle in the US of A (hence the 400,000). However, with Europe still kind of in the middle it's pretty obvious that the territory Microsoft needs to throwing their weight at is Europe.
Europe will be crucial in taking control of the market as a strong 360 in both America and over here will mean a strong Xbox 360 worldwide. Japan is a whole different story. Yes, Microsoft failed there again and, yes, that is a little embarrassing.
But Microsoft trying to succeed in Japan is like Bush trying to single handedly invade Iran.
Europe is the territory to be conquered. There's a growing community movement over here that's getting increasingly supported but is still lacking compared to America. We don't have characters like Trixie or Major Nelson despite the best attempts of some people who fight for the little man.
Sony seem to rank Europe as third while I'd put us in second. Europe is where Micrsoft need to focus now. Make us feel like we're important while Sony tread on us.
